Stability Analysis of Different Regulation Modes of Hydropower Units

The dynamic characteristics of hydropower unit governing systems considerably influence the stability units and connected power system. performances with regulation mode (PRM) opening (ORM) are different. This paper establishes a detailed linear model based on Phillips–Heffron model. damping characteristic two modes different water inertia time constants TW were analyzed. ORM tended to provide negative damping, while PRM often provided positive in major parts frequency range within normal oscillations when was large. Eigenvalue analysis illustrated that has better than ORM. To validate analysis, simulation under typical faults WAS conducted nonlinear unit. results responses more stable terms important operating parameters, such as output power, rotor speed, angles. For facing challenges operation, is recommended obtain good stability.
